Obituary for Roland Ray Finch

Funeral services for Roland Ray Finch, 93 years of age, will be held at the Mt. Pisgah Church in Vernon, Alabama on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.

Mr. Finch will be missed by a host of family and friends. He was a devoted father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, military man and gardener. He was born in Lamar County, Alabama on April 17, 1925 He had a long and varied career in the military. He was in the USN from 1943 to 1945. He was in the US Army from 1945 to 1965. He served with distinction in both WWII and Korea. He was also in Vietnam as a civilian serving with the National Weather Service.

He was proceeded in death by his wife Betty of 61 years. They will be buried together at the Mt. Pisgah cemetery. He leaves his sister, Carolyn Reeves as well as two daughters, Sandy Rollin (John) and Sherry Dunn. He has 4 grandchildren,Laura Spann (Aaron), Charlotte Badgley (Jeff), Alicia Rusyn and Nick Spann. He leaves 9 great-grandchildren, Edwardo, Daniel, Cassie, Cameron, Sam, Caleb, Katie Rose, Zoey-Mae and Zachary.

He was an avid gardener and shared his plants and trees far and wide. He got his love of plants from his mother Rama Boman Finch and his grandfather T.A. Boman both of Lamar County. He loved to share and there is probably no way to count how many yards his flowers brighten...just like he did.
