Helen was born Helga Maria in Augsburg, Germany. At 16 she met American G.I. Sam Fritz who was stationed with his unit in her hometown. They married two years later. Helen left her parents and sisters, Wally and Doris, to spend the following years traveling across continents with the US Army. Helen became an American citizen shortly after arriving in the United States. They had one child, daughter Nancy, and settled in Sioux Falls, SD, once Sam retired from the army. Her husband Sam passed away in 2005. In 2015 Helen moved to sunny Orlando, FL to be close to her daughter Nancy and granddaughters Melissa and Cassy. She greatly enjoyed having her granddaughters close as they were her great joy. After a brief fight with cancer, Helen peacefully passed away. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Sam in Sioux Falls at a future date. She is greatly missed by her family.
