Obituary for William L. Anderson
Winter Garden - William (aka Bill or Andy) LeRoy Anderson, 84, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 26, 2019, following an extended illness.
Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Donna Freeman Anderson; his daughter, Pamela Anderson Luebbert; his son, Mark W. Anderson and his wife, April; his grandchildren, Tim, Kellie and their significant others, Caitlin and Cody; Bella, Sophia and Olivia and his great-grandchild, Tristan. Bill is also survived by his aunt, Lois Anderson of Smethport, PA, and several cousins and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Le Roy and Lillian Johnson Anderson; his brother, Thomas Anderson and his sister, Donna Anderson Shinn.
In his early years, Bill was an avid sportsman who played high school football and baseball on state championship, winning teams. After graduating from Allegany High School in 1954, he enlisted in the USAF, and was a Technical Sergeant and Airborne Radio Operator. He met his beloved wife, Donna Jean, while in middle school; they were voted King and Queen at their high school prom. They were married in September of 1956.
Bill traveled with his family on military assignments, was deployed during the Vietnam War, and retired at Eglin Air Force Base as a resident of Fort Walton Beach, then Shalimar and, finally, Winter Garden, Florida.
After serving in the USAF, Bill and Donna started their own construction company, W.L. Anderson Construction, building custom homes. Bill not only took pride in his business, but truly relished taking care of his home owners. Over the years, his construction expertise and reputation led him to be one of the most trustworthy contractors in the area.
Bill also had a passion for escaping to his fish camp at Bunker Creek and was essentially at the center of the local camp community. For 20 years, he would head to the "river" to connect with nature and the camaraderie of his retired friends. An avid golfer and fisherman, Bill was a member of the Eglin Country Club, and fished in his boat in the Gulf of Mexico on the days that he was not golfing. He would go to his Bunker Creek fish camp every Friday afternoon and come back Sunday mornings refreshed and ready to tackle another week.
A private ceremony will be held July 12, at the Winter Oak Funeral Home in Winter Garden, Florida.
