Obituary for Jessica Freeman

Jessica Kathryn Freeman of Winter Garden, Florida passed away on Monday, February 24, 2020. The short 18 years she lived were a blessing to everyone who knew her.

Jessica was born on March 27, 2001. Her parents, Patrick and Kari, welcomed Jessica and her younger brothers, Jacob and Luke, into the Freeman home on December 21, 2008, as their first 3 children. The three siblings were formally and joyfully adopted on April 15, 2009. In the following 2 years, the Freeman family grew from 3 children to 7, with the adoptions of Jessica’s younger siblings Isaac and Isabelle, and older brothers Elijah and Matthew. In 2018, Jessica’s brother Erik Velez came to live with the Freeman family as well. And then just last October, Jessica got 2 more sisters when Hannah and Rebekah became the newest adopted daughters of the Freeman clan.

Jessica was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Winter Garden. She had attended religious education classes there and received First Holy Communion, First Sacrament of Reconciliation, and the Sacrament of Confirmation. She cherished wearing the Miraculous Medal handed down to her from her Papaw Freeman.

Jessica had attended Westbrooke Elementary School in Ocoee. As a little tike, Jessica participated in basketball in Upward Sports, softball at Windermere Little League, and soccer and cheerleading at Roper YMCA. Jessica went on to St. Andrew Catholic School in Orlando where she ran track and played basketball, volleyball and soccer, graduating from the 8th grade in 2016. She had attended West Orange High School for her freshman year, and then attended Windermere High School where she was in her senior year. She had previously been a member of the West Orange Warriors Cross Country and Track teams, doing hurdles and shot put. She also had been on the Windermere Wolverines Cross Country and Track teams, doing hurdles and pole vault.

Jessica was a beautiful, adventurous and supportive young woman who craved excitement and found happiness in the company of those she loved. Making the most of every moment, Jessica loved to travel with her big family, go on thrill rides, climb the highest tree (even when it was 50 feet high and she didn’t know how to get down), swim like a fish, run until she dropped, listen to music that spoke to her and go shopping with her Mom. She had the longest curly eyelashes, the brightest smile and a goofy laugh that would fill a whole room.

Jessica is survived by her parents, Patrick and Kari Freeman; her sisters Isabelle, Hannah and Rebekah Freeman; her brothers Elijah “Eli”, Matthew, Erik (Velez), Jacob, Luke and Isaac Freeman; grandmother Geneva (Scates) Freeman of Clermont, grandparents Robert and Pauline (Henrich) DeSormier of Orlando; uncles Rob DeSormier of Orlando, Damian Freeman of Tampa, Marcus Freeman of Lake Mary; aunts Pam (DeSormier) McGrath (spouse Marty) of Wrentham, MA, Marianne (DeSormier) Boerenko (spouse Stephen) of Merritt Island, Stephanie (Freeman-Hannah) Crawley (spouse Michael) of Palm Beach Gardens, godparents Mike and Mary Jo (Freeman) Keen of Evansville, IN and many loving cousins. She is predeceased by her uncle, Patrick DeSormier and grandfather, David Freeman.

We wish you could have seen the world, Jessica – you would have loved it. It would have loved you too. We didn’t know we would lose you so soon and wish we could have held you tighter and kept you safe. We love you always. You will be missed always. God has you now in his keeping. We have you in our memories and in our hearts.
