Obituary for Thomas R Whitten

Thomas R. Whitten (Tom), 81 of Clermont, Florida passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at South
Lake Hospital in Clermont, Florida. He was born in Peoria, Illinois to Anne Hayes and Warren Whitten on
April 22, 1939. He was the eldest of two sons.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Tammera J. Whitten Riden and eldest son,
Timothy Ray Whitten.

Tom is survived by his wife, Catherine (Moreland) Whitten of 39 years; his brother David (Henrietta)
Whitten of Illinois; his son, Todd (Tammy) Whitten of Illinois and his daughter Angelica (Jeffrey) Whitten
Stocks of Florida. He is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Tom attended Woodruff High School in Peoria, IL and was a certified carpenter through the Carpenters
Local Union of Peoria. He was a custom homebuilder with Theobald & Whitten for 10 years in Peoria, IL before joining Diversified Buildings, Inc. in Morton, IL in 1975 as their first commercial superintendent.

He and Catherine moved to Sarasota, Florida in 1983 and remained in Florida for the duration of his life.
He finally retired from construction in 2013. He and Catherine decided to help people with medical hair
loss and opened Crowning Glory Clinique in Clermont, Florida to help serve the community.

During his life, Tom and Catherine dedicated 10 years to therapy dog volunteering at area nursing
homes, schools, and Give Kids the World (Make a Wish Foundation). Tom was a man of faith always
willing to serve others. He was a member of Real Life Church in Clermont, FL. He was a true family man
who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed going to sporting events
with his son-in-law, Jeff and friends.

Tom will be remembered for his generosity, beautiful smile, and his wonderful cooking skills.
