Obituary for Earl L. Gilliland

Earl L. Gilliland, formerly of New Jersey, passed away peacefully in his sleep at 90 years of age in Winter Garden FL on the morning of September 5th 2020.

He was born in New Brunswick NJ to Earl C. and Catherine Stark Gilliland and spent his childhood hunting and fishing all around East Brunswick. He met his wife of 64 years, Marilyn Mondi, on a blind date in 1955. They later married, built their first home and raised their two children in East Brunswick.

Earl served in the US Navy for four years before going on to become a machinist for Johnson & Johnson in New Brunswick NJ, where he worked until his retirement. After moving to the Jersey shore, he enjoyed fishing on the beach, boating, clamming, crabbing and tending to his backyard garden. Earl could also be found tinkering in his garage or riding his bicycle around the beach town.

Earl is survived by his wife, Marilyn Gilliland, as well as his two children Katherine Bevensee (Scott) of Winter Springs FL and E. Christopher Gilliland (Laura) of Princeton Junction NJ. He is also survived by four grandchildren, one step grandson and two great grandchildren.

As per Earl's wishes, his ashes will be spread at sea to join those of his parents at a later date. Earl always had quite the green thumb, so those wishing to honor him at home are invited to plant a new flower, plant, or vegetable in his memory.
