Obituary for Bertie Mae Benoit (Wheeler)

Bertie Wheeler Benoit, 87, of Gotha, Florida passed away peacefully on November 17, 2020 at home with her loving family by her side.

Bertie was born on October 1, 1933 in Fairvilla, Florida, the daughter of the late Floyd and Mary Lou (Kemp) Wheeler. She had an identical twin, Bettie Wheeler Braziel that pre-deceased her.

Bertie attended Orlando High School, graduating in 1951. She worked at Dickson-Ives Department store for approximately 10 years, after which, she became a housewife. She also was active in volunteering at her children’s schools. She was a charter member of Kirkman Road United Methodist Church, serving in many capacities there.

She married the late John A. Benoit, Jr. in 1952 and moved to Gotha in 1953, her home for 67 years.

She is survived by her two children, John A. Benoit, III (Lorie), of Winter Garden, Florida and Sandra Benoit Milam, of Apopka, Florida, grandson, Alex Benoit and granddaughter, Kaylee Milam, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

At her request, there will be a graveside service on November 20, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Gotha, Florida.
