Obituary for Helen A. Thurmond
Helen Thurmond, 101, of Orlando, Florida passed away peacefully on Friday, May 28, 2021 in Winter Garden, Florida.
Helen was born on January 8, 1920 in Harmon, North Dakota. She moved to Windermere, Florida with her husband, Frederick Thurmond, in 1950. She worked as a seamstress, ran a county general store, and raised her family on a working farm. She would tell stories of picking cotton and milking the cows on the farm. She was an avid tennis player and spectator. Whether crocheting, quilting, or dolling making, there was nothing she could not craft. Helen was affectionately known as Gimmie or Gim to all the grandkids, family, and friends. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church Orlando.
Gimmie loved her family and loved Jesus. Helen is survived by three children Sharon Thurmond (Waco, Texas), Wayne Thurmond (Winter Garden, Florida), and Alice Thurmond (Orlando, Florida). She is proceeded by two children Frederick Thurmond Jr (Orlando, Florida) and Linda Thurmond Kucklick (Orlando, Florida). Grandmother to Heather Kucklick Earhart (Oviedo, Florida), Ann Thurmond (Waco, Texas), Richard Kucklick (Casselberry, Florida), Dana Thurmond (Winter Garden, Florida), and Matthew McMurtrey (Windermere, Florida). Great grandmother to Caitlyn, Sarah, Amber, and Elizabeth.
Helen's funeral arrangements are in the caring guidance of Winter Oak Funeral Home and Cremation.
