Obituary for Doris Kwong

Safely Home
“I am in Heaven, dear loved ones;
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is a perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.
I am now at peace forever,
Safely Home in Heaven at last.”

Our beloved Doris Kwong, dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, passed peacefully on August 15, 2021. After many hard years trying to manage the chronic conditions she battled daily, our mom made a brave decision to return home with dignity and grace. She is now resting in peace with her son, Raymund. During her final days, she was surrounded by her husband, Hon Sum; her children Annie, Wendy, Alden and family; also her grandchildren in love and light. She is also survived by her sisters in Macau and her brother in Thailand. Doris was born in June 1951 in Pegu, Burma where she was a talented seamstress, and married Hon Sum in Hong Kong. Then with a new beginning in America, she worked tirelessly to provide her family with a comfortable life, as she raised her 4 children well with love and gentle devotion. She filled our childhood with fun activities, bellies full of the best home-made foods, many gatherings with family, friends and happy memories. We always had what we needed and our lives were full of goodness she embodied. She shared the same sentiment with her grandchildren and doted on them.

Her family and friends knew her as a happy, gentle, thoughtful and nurturing soul. Doris found simple joys in the ordinariness of everyday living. She enjoyed a good laugh, the innocence of children, and looking after them—she loved being around her grandchildren and delighted in fond memories of the darndest things they’d say or do. Her grandchildren’s best memories are her warm nurturing hugs, kisses, tickles and sharing tasty snacks with her. We will miss the heart of our family, but will carry her legacy of strength and kindness with us and in our children. We love you forever <3.
