Obituary for Walter H Cummings
Walter Henry Cummings, 81 of Winter Garden, Florida passed away Monday, May 2nd, 2022, at South Lake Hospital, Clermont, Fl, with his family and friends by his side.
Walter was born May 26th, 1940, in the small town of Batavia, NY. He is the son of Silas and Ruth Cummings, brother of Vincent and Bradshaw Cummings, half-brother of Major Darrell Wayne Cummings.
Walter is a graduate of the prestigious Columbia Military School, in Columbia, Tennessee, in 1956. After graduating Walter enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1957, working in fire rescue. He was a A2C and honorably served his country till 1963. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Drafting and Engineering degree. During his career he worked at General Electric, in Louisville, Kentucky. Then the rest of his time as a Senior Engineer in the areas of Areo-Space and Military Defense. Working for N.A.S.A at Cape Canaveral, Florida, Morton Thiokol in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Lockheed-Martin until the mid-nineties in Orlando, Florida. In 1994, he made a career move leaving behind the suit & tie, leaving the stress of 9-to-5 for sunshine and casual attire until retirement at age 76, working at the Central Florida Auto Auction, in Ocoee, Florida.
Walter loved NASCAR and classic cars. He enjoyed traveling and going to the beach. His favorite sports teams were the Kentucky Wildcats and Green Bay Packers. In his retirement he spent his summers in Michigan, and winters in Winter Garden, Florida. Walter was a lifetime member and officer of the Winter Garden Elks Lodge of 42 years. Besides a strong work ethic and deep love and patriotism for his country, he is best known for his wit, being neighborly, kind, and a good friend who was always willing to help out. He was a loving father and grandparent. Caring husband to Penny Cummings, of Kentucky for 20 yrs. Loving spouse of 25 yrs. to Billie Therrian, of Michigan. He was a doting companion of 4 yrs. to Laura Vittum of Winter Garden, Florida. He will be truly missed by all.
Walter is survived by his daughter, Synamon Bohn, and her Husband, Justin Bohn, 2 grandchildren Chloe and Conrad Bohn of Casselberry, Florida. One brother, Bradshaw Cummings of Rangeley, Maine. His nephew Hanniel Cummings of Atlanta, Georgia, nephew David Cummings of San Diego, California and 5 great-nephews, 2 great-nieces and cousins. Stepson Michael Moss and his family of Watervliet, Michigan.
Walter Cummings will be buried at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims, Florida June 10th, 2022, at 12:30 p.m., Pavilion A.
