Obituary for Richard T. Wisemiller

Richard Thomas Wisemiller, 70, of Windermere, FL, went home to the Lord on Thursday, January 26, 2023.

Rich was born in Hammond, IN, on November 29, 1952, to the late Francis and Adeline Wisemiller. He was a graduate of Saint Joseph's College in Indiana. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Lawana (Augustyn) Wisemiller; his daughter Tonya (Wisemiller) Parnell, and husband Bert Parnell of Windermere, FL; his son Jeremy Wisemiller, and husband Carlos Saud Aguas of Windermere, FL; and the apple of his eye, his granddaughter, Kimberly Parnell. He was preceded in death by his brother, David Wisemiller of California, and his sister Ruth Ann (Wisemiller) Ratliff of Indiana.

Rich spent his career teaching middle school throughout Pinellas County, Florida, and was heavily involved in the teacher’s union, advocating with his fellow educators before retiring and moving to Windermere to be closer to his granddaughter.

He was extremely proud of his family, always happy to discuss their latest career highlights, or the dance achievements of his granddaughter.

Rich loved to travel, and managed to visit over 35 countries stepping foot on all seven continents. He spent a year teaching in Nagano, Japan, through an international teacher exchange program, and continued to visit yearly, taking groups of middle school students with him each time. During all of his travels, Rich made sure to visit a McDonalds in every country he visited, comparing cheeseburgers from each nation.

Rich was an avid Bridge player, achieving Silver Life Master status like his father, he was a lifelong supporter of Chicago sports teams, and a Disney fanatic. However, his true passion was cooking, which he took great pride in doing for his friends and family.

The memorial for Richard Thomas Wisemiller will be held at Winter Oak Funeral Home in Winter Garden, FL, on Saturday, February 4, 2023, with a viewing starting at 10:00 a.m., immediately followed by a service at 12:00 p.m. The family will receive visitors following the service at the home of Tonya and Bert Parnell.
