Obituary for Andres Nieves

Andres Nieves, 85, of Ocoee, Florida passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 6, 2023, with his loving
family by his side. Andres was born on October 20, 1937, in the town of Quebradillas, Puerto Rico. He is
the youngest son of the late Pedro Nieves and Cecilia (Ramos) Nieves.

Andres served as a noncommissioned officer in the United States Air Force. During his twenty years of
faithful and honorable military service, he performed crucial maintenance on a variety of aircraft
including the mighty B-52 Stratofortress strategic bomber. Andres retired from the Air Force in the rank
of technical sergeant in 1975. Upon retirement, he returned to his childhood home of Quebradillas
where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico,
raised a family, and worked as an accountant at a local credit union until his second retirement. An avid
reader with a deep thirst for knowledge, particularly related to world history, Andres was the very
definition of a Renaissance man. Family and friends marveled at his bright mind and remarkable ability
to recall virtually everything he ever read. Even more, they appreciated his love for his family and
Puerto Rico, his wise counsel, warm smile, kind heart, and humble demeanor – qualities that gained him
much respect and admiration from all who knew him.

Most of all, Andres was a proud family man who deeply adored his beautiful and loving wife of 65 years,
Maria de Jesus (Mora) Nieves, and his four beloved children Andres Nieves, Sigfredo Nieves, Oscar
Nieves, and Maria (Nieves) Goldman. In addition to his wife and children, Andres is survived by his
daughters-in-law Carmen (Butler) Nieves, Enid (Hernandez) Nieves, and son-in-law Michael Goldman;
and grandchildren Jonathan Nieves, Bianca Nieves, Camille Nieves, Lauren Goldman, Amanda Goldman,
Victoria Nieves, Gracie (Nieves) Trinh, Sophia Nieves, and Samira Nieves. Andres was preceded in death
by his parents, siblings, granddaughter Sylvia Nieves, and grandson Diego Nieves.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Andres’ life may make donations to St. Jude Children’s
