Mercine Ferguson, beloved and cherished daughter, sister, niece, mother and a devoted friend, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2024, while bravely battling Sickle Cell Disease with her family by her side. Mercine was born on January 20, 1956, to Carmen Birthwright and Alanzo Thorpe in Kingston, Jamaica and mirgrated to New York in 1984 where she started a new life under the hosting and tutelage of Anthony and Elaine
Birthwright who continued to provide supportive care through her life. Mercine's life was a testament to love, service, and compassion that touched the hearts of all who knew her.

Mercine was employed with the Federal Reserve Bank and enjoyed working on behalf of the people she served. She eventually transitioned from working to staying at home to raise her three children and help raise her three step children. She enjoyed knitting, fashion, and collecting fine arts. Everyone that knew Mercine would tell you that she was sweet, kind, friendly, and received the endearing name of “Mama Ferg”.

Mercine's legacy of service was woven deeply into the fabric of her life. She dedicated countless hours volunteering at the church and the local library, where her caring spirit shone brightly. Her selfless acts of kindness and unwavering commitment to helping others not only left an indelible mark on the community she served, but led her to welcome several "bonus kids" into her heart. She will be remembered for her warm smile, her gentle spirit, and her boundless capacity for love. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, kindness, and service that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Mercine ran a good race, she was a fighter, and she kept the faith. May she rest in peace, knowing that her legacy of love and service will endure for generations to come. We’re sure the God Almighty is happy to welcome her as a new angel into His Kingdom.
